First post here, so here's the long story short: I litterally live a stones throw from the waters edge on the coast of Northern Humboldt. I've been here a couple of months and aside from the zombie apocalypse things are starting to shake up nicely. Before that I lived many miles from the nearest pavement, deep in the mountain wilderness if Humboldt, completely off grid, fur three years like Jeremiah Johnson. That...See More ended rather abruptly. Here's the story: We got the evacuation orders a couple of days ago, by 4pm everything was the color of Satan. Off-grid, communications travels slow, if at all. I drove up to the pond to get reception and find out just how bad it actually was, and my phone wouldn't stop dinging with notifications - "Are you okay?", "Did you get out?", "If you get this get out of there the fire's just below you!", Etc. Driving down the mountain was even worse, wiping my eyes to see as they were watering so bad and my lungs were burning as the smoke just got thicker the further down I went. After a while, the cars were all just following each other's tail ights, as some panicking growers barreled up the mountain at what seemed to be 70mph with trailers to get perhaps one more load of their plants before the possibility of the highway being shut down completely and fire consuming everyone's farms.
