This is one law that has needed changing for a very long time. This is the one that takes your military retirement pay and gives about 50% of it to your ex wife. Now I can see giving her this percentage for a certain amout of time, but they give it to her for LIFE!!! And it doesn't matter if she leaves you, commits adultery, takes everything you own, etc. They still give it to her for the remainder of your lifetime. This is one of the most unfair laws on the books.
As described above, that's the way it happened to me. And this witch gets it until I die.

This is just one more way the government screws the soldiers. If Obumble care passes then we can kiss off Tricare.

That is not quite correct, final decrees (or an amended final decree) in a state court can fix that one dude.
When was the last time you went to an attorney that knows that statute and your state law on the subject, 'cause whomever did your divorce fucked you on that, not the military or the Congress that enacted that statute. A deal made in any state court controls, you got hosed by the default it would seem. See Sec 1408 secs 1 & 2 of the Act.
If you have present grounds to modify the deal under the rules in her state, your state, or even perhaps the state where you were on active duty at the time, you can get that little muckinfess fixed. If any of them are NJ or VA shoot me an email.

Maryland is one of the most liberal states around. 50/50 in divorce and adultery gets her a whole $50 dollar fine. Went before the judge and he told me I was lucky he didn't give her more money. I said wait a minute your honor, she left, committed adultery, I'm taking care of both my kids, one handicapped, paying all the medical for both, college for one, a mortgage and all the bills and you're going to give her more? She got 30% and he could have given her 50%. Still a chunk out of my retirement for the rest of my life. And no matter what state, unless a deal is made between the two getting the divorce, a judge will award the woman your retirement everytime. I offered to pay for my daughters entire college if she left my retirement alone. Not only did this witch take my military retirement, she took 50% of my other retirement that I'm not even getting yet. Welcome to the wonderful state of Maryland. Home of the liberals.

Guess maybe I should have had a different attorney, but what's done is done. Someday they will wake up and change this law to something a little more fair.

You can bet your ass on that one. Either that or our premiums will triple.

My appologies for making this sound about me. It's not. What's done is done. This should be about future military members that this law will affect. It's unfair and needs to be changed. There are many websites to sign a petition to fight this. Here is just one of the websites that can give you info.
