I am in the beginning stages of transforming my Sporty. It already has the 1200 conversion kit added, but I really..really want to put a big stretched tank on her. Is it possible to find a gloss black one already done that I can just put on without having to paint my fenders? I'm wondering if I can get away with doing that. Want to add the Z bars with risers, but haven't found any pics online of what I have in mind. I basically want to do whatever I can to make her look bigger until I can afford a Softtail Deluxe! lol I have a Corbin seat and hate it! It is not comfortable at all. Thinking about a Mustang studded solo seat. Suggestions......photos...throw 'em my way...lets see some ideas!! Cool

If you switch tanks there's a couple of pitfalls to avoid.

After-market tanks can be leakers.  I don't really recommend the "Kreem tank sealant" that's available.  Google some stuff called POR15.  http://www.por15.com/Fuel-System-Restoration/products/12/  Good stuff.  Also, aftermarket sheet metal of any kind tends to be thinner than stock.  You could take two stock tanks, find a good weld shop and have them "sectioned" into a stretched/enlarged tank.  You need to figure the available room from the stock mounting in front to the rear, and how you'd mount back there.  I'm not a Sporty buff, so I'm not sure how that'd work on one.  Others on here will know more or have more "Sporty" friendly ideas than I will.

Buy the softail.   I can rent ya space and an english wheel,  but it aint gonna be cheap.

You aint gonna like it till ya build it yourself.   Aint a soul on the planet can build what you wish except your own self.

You have a vision in your head---buy the tools, and make it happen.   Materials are extra.

A lot of people want a sportster to look loke a Sportster. So you might actualy be devalueing your bike by the modifications. Certainly if you plan to trade it in when you get that bigger bike Harley shops will give you less for a modified bike than a stock one.

Do people still go to Harley shops?????      Who in their right mind is gonna purchase clothes from Pakastain or purchase parts made in China????

Harley Davidson stock went from 17 bucks a share down to 1.12 bucks a share in the past 3 years.    Many of those shops sold out cause they saw the future----and didn't much care for the wannabees.

It dont take no rocket surgeon to make the old VTwin go, but they look and sound great.

Easy to work on,  easy to customize,  easy to make go fast for just a few bucks.

If she wants a custom machine just for her, more power to her.   Fuck the Factory.   She has the old skool mind.   I say Hurray for her.

Amen to that WV!! If I do decide to get rid of the bike, I would sell it locally and never trade it in. Harley Dealers are just waiting for people to bend over so they can get us from behind when we trade something in!! LOL

WV's comment about "buy the softail" is actually a good idea.  In my neck of the woods there's a dozen women riders who brought Sportys first, then discovered the big twin (like a Dynaglide Lowrider) actually sits and handles better for them and is what they wanted to begin with.  I'm not saying sell the Sportster.  They are fun to hop-up and play with; but get what you want for a daily rider..

I would love to upgrade to a Softtail, just not in the position to do so until Spring. Patience is not one of my better qualities! LOL

HJ has a good point whether or not you like Harley shops. Not gonna keep it, then dont modify it. It devalues a bike thats hard to sell anyway.

Save your money for your softail and all the goodies youre gonna want for her.
