September 23, 2008 - Please see the notice below from Capt. of the Office of Military Commissions, Office of the Chief Prosecutor. TO: 9/11 Family Members - Fort Hamilton (Brooklyn, NY)
As you know, we will be at Fort Hamilton on Monday and Tuesday of next week (Sep 22 and 23, 2008). COL Deputy Chief Prosecutor, and a lead prosecutor on the 9/11 case from the Department of Justice, will be there on Tuesday only. They will give a presentation to you at 1pm on Tues, Sep . 23. They will talk about military commissions, give you the status of the case, and of course, be there to answer any questions you may have. I have a couple of handouts to give to you, and I will also have a Victim Impact Questionnaire available for you to take home and fill out if you choose to do so.
We will also be available to speak with you about your loved one and whether or not you wish to testify. I will make sure your names are on a roster that will be given to the security guards at the front gate. This will ensure you can enter the base on that day. Please bring a picture ID with you for identification.
Many of you have asked if you could use the credentials you were issued in the Moussaoui case. You will receive a badge that will allow you to enter the base, and it will be specially coded to allow you to enter the CCTV site as well. We are looking forward to meeting you next week. Sincerely, CAPT, USNR (Ret) Victim Witness Liaison
Thursday, September 11, 2008 - Bayonne resident Betsy Parks still remembers everything about that fateful day seven years ago. After 10 minutes on the Light Rail, she stepped off the train and made her way to the Hoboken PATH station. It was 9 a.m. and Parks, an IT consultant for Morgan Stanley, was on her way to her job on the 64th floor of Tower 2 of the World Trade Center. On a crowded walkway, Parks peered up at the sky and noticed the black plume of smoke hovering near the Twin Towers. She stopped and called her sister. "One of the high floors of the first tower is hit by something,' she told me . and the first thing in my head is that's where our brother works. That's where Bobby works," Parks said yesterday. Minutes later, Parks watched as the second plane smashed into the building where she worked. Like so many, Parks feels like she lost a piece of herself that day. Her closest sibling, Bob Parks, worked on the 105th floor and died. "We were absolutely devastated. Our whole family," Parks said. "But the support network that developed afterward helped so much. I've been a part of the memorial efforts since the week after 9/11." For a good portion of the last seven years, Parks has played an active role in the New Jersey Family & Survivors Memorial Committee. The committee is in charge of state efforts to build a memorial for the 740 New Jersey residents who were killed on 9/11. "The members of the group have been so helpful to each other, everyone in the group lost a loved one . and no one has forgotten. We are all driven to get this done." While there is controversy surrounding "Empty Sky" at Liberty State Park, Betsy Parks remains confident that the memorial will be ready by 2011. The design, two 30-foot-high and 200-foot-long stainless steel walls rising from a 10-foot high grassy knoll surrounded by trees, has drawn complaints that it blocks views of the harbor and the New York City skyline. The projected cost of $12 million for the original design has ballooned to $17 million and a new nonprofit group, the New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Foundation, is working to raise the additional $5 million. "We will have this done by the 10th anniversary. We're all still very motivated to get it done," Parks says. Parks will be joined by members of the New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Foundation today at 3:30 p.m. for a brief ceremony at the Central New Jersey Railroad Terminal in Liberty State Park to honor those lost in the attacks. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact – E. Betzy Pinky Pinx Parks E-mail – pinkymyspace@yahoo.com Web: www.nj911memorial.org The New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Foundation Inc. & The “Empty Sky” Memorial Jersey City, NJ – As the seventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 approaches renewed attention will be given to memorializing the victims of those attacks. Remembrances will be held once again at Ground Zero and at numerous other locations throughout the United States. On Thursday, September 11, 2008, the New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Foundation will be holding a brief ceremony at the Central NJ Railroad Terminal in Liberty State Park. The ceremony is scheduled for 3:30pm and is expected to draw friends, colleagues, family members, survivors, and legislators to the site where the NJ 9/11 Memorial “Empty Sky” will be built. Shortly after the attacks in 2001, acting Governor DiFransesco created a Memorial Commission to develop a permanent memorial to honor those lost and to be a focal point at one of this country’s most historic parks. Less than a year later, Governor McGreevey sought the help and guidance of the public in selecting a fitting memorial and advising the Memorial Commission when he created the New Jersey Family & Survivors Memorial Committee. Over the course of the next two years the Family & Survivors Committee worked with the Office of Recovery and Victim’s Assistance and the New Jersey executive and legislative branches in conducting an international design competition, which resulted in more than 300 qualified designs being submitted. A professional jury reviewed the designs and ultimately the Family & Survivors Committee unanimously chose “Empty Sky” as the winning design. The State of New Jersey appropriated $6 million and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey donated $7 million toward this project during 2004. On September 10, 2004, ground was broken for the “Empty Sky” memorial at a ceremony with more than 350 people in attendance. Preliminary site work has been completed at Liberty State Park and construction estimates have been received and reviewed, but much work remains to be done. The New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Foundation was formed in 2008 as a registered 501(c)(3) charity to raise the additional funds that will be needed to complete this lasting memorial to honor the lives of 740 of New Jersey’s proudest citizens. The public is invited to attend the ceremony on September 11th in Liberty State Park. Additional information on the “Empty Sky” memorial and the foundation will be available at the ceremony. Information is also available on the foundation’s website (www.nj911memorial.org) where secure online donations can also be made. ` ` ` ` ` ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~u.n.i.q.u.e. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ` ` ` ` `
I am a family victim of Sept 11. My Brother, Robert E. Parks Jr., was killed that day in 1WTC/105/CantorFitzgerald. I lost my job in 2WTC. Now f/1st time in my life I work in NJ. I knew a great many people killed that day in WTC especially because all the same people took the Wall Street bus into/out of NY for work on a daily basis along with me and my Brother. After the terroristic attack, we knew who was killed by the empty seats. I knew 3 people very very well who were killed on Flight 93. Down the block from where I live is Newark Bay and Newark Airport is in my line of sight. It's a few miles from my apt. I am the Chairperson of the Sept 11 NJ Memorial Foundation and we are building a stainless steel memorial for the NJ victims only and is located in Liberty State Park Jersey City. We spent $12mm that was given to us by the Port Authority NY/NJ and $3mm from the State of NJ. We need to raise $12mm more. We will start fundraising soon as we just became a 501[3]{c} and can now begin accepting donations. I will plan a rally to help raise $. Read the other doc in this album, itz the yellow invitation. I will be attending CantorFitzgerald's lobster-fest for the xxl long wkend next weekend in Southampton out on Long Island. It is a benefit that formerly assisted families w/$proceeds. Now those proceeds go to Walter Reed Memorial Hosp and deceased&injured soldiers/families. I will stay for an xxl weekend at the beachfront mansion of Edie Lutnick who I became sincere friends with. Her brother Gary Lutnick was killed Sept 11 along w/my brother. Her other brother Howard Lutnick is the Chairman and CEO of CantorFitzgerald. If you would like to donate $100 [see the yellow invitation] it will entitle you to a draw in the lottery for $25,000.00 pink diamond earrings. Only 500 tkts are being sold, raising another $50,000 f/injured soldiers at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital. If anybody deserves to win, itz me cuz my name!Thnx f/listening...pinx aka pinky aka betzy
