About Me:
My name is Alexander Alberto Lopera Saldarriaga Restrepo Hernández Aragón Cárdena Echeverri Castaño Dé’Gallón Araqué Espinoza; most know me as Lex. My whole family and I are proudly from the highlands of Colombia. My lineage however, is traced back to Spaniard Knighthood, forest-living-outlaw-Gypsies in Portugal, and tribal indigenous South American natives.

Motorcycling in Colombia is neither a sport nor a hobby; it is a way of life. Most commute on motorcycle because it is the most affordable & most convenient to park (we dont have many parking spaces). Due to our economy & high sale rates, a Harley Davidson in Colombia costs A LOT cheaper than it does here in the States. We have a high density of motorcycle deaths due to high alcohol consumption, uneven-pot-filled winding roads, poor traffic control, and fast unlawful speeds. We also have a large population of motorcycle outlaws. And yet, Biker culture keeps thriving throughout Colombia.

I first rode on a bike when I was five. The rest, is history: Migrated to Miami when I was young. Ive been a Harley Davidson & Indian Chief enthusiast since age of 12. Fascinated with beatnik culture from the 50s, hippie lifestyle from the 60s, drifting bikers from the 70s, and rebellious punks from the 80s, I was a 90s teenager trapped in the past,(To this day, my co-workers that actually lived Woodstock, frequently forget my age because of all the knowledge I have from that past). In high school, I was out of place with my long hair always worn loose, a bullring on my nose, same old ripped jeans and a leather jacket to boot. The only thing missing was the hog: but I more than made up for it with a 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger Muscle Car I bought for $600 and fixed up. I dropped out of day school my senior year; I was homeless for about 3 months when I found a gig working as a carny for the traveling carnival. The other carnies fully introduced me to the biker culture. I dropped the running-off-with-the-circus act like a bad habit, and registered into adult night school while I worked as a bouncer late nights in South Beach Miami. I paid through collage by working as a rodie for the likes of Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Richie Havens, etc. I even got to perform on stage; I opened up with Spoke Word SLAM for Richie Havens at the Love-Inn 60s tribute festival in Hollywood FL.

So where am I now? Now-a-days, Im jus a layed back drifting hippy, (when Im not working). Im a bouncer, gone activist, gone teacher. Thats right, Im an English teacher in Homestead Middle School. After I graduated from Miami Dade College with my degree, I went to teach in China for a while,(I got the chance to back pack Asia for a bit). Im living on a day-to-day basis with my small income and bad credit. All I have is my little bike, an efficiency studio attached to my old folks home, my own private library, and my guitar. The little money I bring in is to pay the rent, fix the bike, hit the road, and save for my next long trip over seas. And you know what? I wouldnt have it any other way!

My motorcycle might not be the biggest, pritiest, or fastest on the road, but she hasnt let me down yet, she's good to me, and she's what my budget permits. Some would claim that youre not a true biker if youre not riding 1600CC or a $15,000 price tag; well those who have such a claim, dont know what being a true biker is all about. I ride a heritage shell on a V-star block but I ride it hard: I dont have a car and I ride it 100+ miles per day to work and back. I plan on building another bike,an Indian Chief, non of this stock bull $#!+. I might belong to a new generation of young riders but I have fully embraced the traditional outlook of biker culture. DO NOT MISTAKE ME FOR A WEEKEND RIDER! My old lady was hoping this biker thing was just a phase; after my first accident she was convinced I would never saddle up again. What she doesnt understand is that I put my life at risk every day, not because I live to ride, but because I ride to live.
