This is Johnny, he is my grandson and he has Williams Syndrome. He also has Epilepsy. His condition is rare because he has both. It hits 1 out of 120,ooo Children. He has between 2 - 200 seizures in 10 - 15 minutes, he is 2 years old. He just learned how to sit up by himself. He cannot talk, walk or crawl yet. the seizures have done some damage to his brain. He cannot have any calcium because he has high calcium levels. He can't communicate with us like a regular 2 yr. old. But he does smile and love to be held. He is making progress since they've have put him on Depacote to control his seizures so they don't do damage to his brain anymore. He goes to C.H.O.P. in Philadelphia every month and spent 2 months there last Jan. He has a MySpace It's Baby Johnny Williams Syndrome Awareness. It explains the why's and how's of this little talked about or known Syndrome. Check out his space drop my daughter ,who goes through so much, a few lines. She is a rock as she also has a 4 yr. old. Children are so innocent and what he goes through causes great heartache for us but also hope and most of all great love for a liitle boy who has gone through and continues to go through more then any child should ever have to.
Johnny's last visit to C.H.O.P. showed a Miracle, His tests results that came back so bad have NOW showed just fine. His calcium levels are great and he can start to slowly have dairy products. But his seizures seem to be getting worse. He'll never be on the level as others his age, He'll never go to a regular school or leave home But at least he's had some improvement. Little Johnny recently had a feeding tube inserted, and is gaining weight. On a good day he'll kiss you back!!! He is trying hard but still has a bunch of problems. A state organization gave my daughter money to get a good reliable used vehicle to get him back and forth to Philly children's hospital and the Williams clinic which rally helped her with that problem. Thanks to all my friends out there who send their prayers and well wishes, It means a great deal to us, Lynn xxoo
