I LOVE WEBBy.TOOLS OF THE TRADE. and if you have no clue what some of these are then you should not even think of building a motorcycle.A complete set of Ratchets and Sockets Obviously you will need SAE standard-sized sockets and Metric sizes too.A good quality Torque wrench.A complete set of pliers.A complete set of open end and box end wrenches.A complete set of Allen wrenches both Standard and Metric.A complete set of Screwdrivers in both flat blade and phillips blade styles.A complete set of Torx Wrenches.An Oxyacetylene torch or also called a hot wrench.Hammers all sizes Rubber mallets one metal and one rubber.and different metal hammers with different crowns and some plastic hammers.A small Grinder.A large variety of shears.A hand held jig saw.A complete set of files and not fuckin finger nail files if you do not have these just get them I do not want to hear it.An impact driver.An Angle grinder.A wire wheel this is for your grinder.A motorcyle lift.Unless you want to lift the damn thing yourself.A hydraulic floor jack.An adjustable wrench.Utility Knife.Eletric hand drill.Locking pliers like the vise grip brand pliers.A trouble light.A pry bar.A comfortable work bench not only is squatting down to work on a bike uncomfortable but it can be dangerous squatting in an awkward postion for an extended period of time can lead to permanant nerve damage and we would not want this now would we.An air compressor.An english wheel which is a machine that stretches metel by reducing the thickness of the metal as it passes between upper and lower wheels under pressure.and last but not least a small slip roll.and a huge thing to have is a TIG welder.FACTORY ENGINES OF THE TRADE.XL sportster=These are the "small" twinsfrom Harley,Although the can also be the most potent.These range in size from 883-cc to 1200-cc in stock form.For some reason these have always been listen in Metic while the big twin have been listen in cubic inches.The earlier XL was all cast iron, and the Evolution XL are made of Aluminum,Buell=these are breath on versions on XL unsed in Buell motorcycles I personally hate these engines.Flatheads=Prior to Harley's Knucklehead the U.S.motorcycle manufacturers used a sidevalve designed nicknamed flathead.Knucklehead=This is Harleys Big Twin these were made from 1937 to 1947 when introduced these were the high performance engines these make a great chopper engine.Panhead=These replaced the knucklehead in 1948 these engines are a top twin cylinder engines. Shovelhead=These replaced the Panhead in 1966 this engine featured an improved top-end but in 1970's the quality suffered,and did not improve again until 1980,s and the ones built from 1981-1984 can be good engines. Evolution=These replaced the aging shovelhead with the all aluminum Evolution. TwinCam=These replaced the Evolution in 1999 and 2000 this was about the time Harley ramped up production and went will past the 200,000-bike-per-year mark.and if I was making a old school chopper or a bobber I would use a Panhead,Shovel or a Knucklehead engine,But it is your motorcycle and your decision. |
