| Description: |
The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play written by Eve Ensler which ran at the off-Broadway Westside Theatre after a limited run at HERE Arts Center in 1996. The Vagina Monologues is made up of a varying number of monologues read by a varying number of women (initially, Eve Ensler performed every monologue herself, with subsequent performances featuring three actresses, and more recent versions featuring a different actress for every role). Every monologue somehow relates to the vagina, be it through sex, love, rape, menstruation, mutilation, masturbation, birth, orgasm, the variety of names for the vagina, or simply as a physical aspect of the body. A recurring theme throughout the piece is the vagina as a tool of female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of individuality. Every year a new monologue is added to highlight a current issue affecting women around the world. The presentation on Friday, November 13, at 7:30pm, the Monologues will be benefitting the organization I volunteer for: Breast Cancer Awareness for Life (BCAFL). On that night it will be a fundraising show, tickets will be $25 per person, with proceeds going to BCAFL. BCAFL is an organization run entirely by volunteers who make sure the money goes to cancer survivors. The money is used through the hospitals for the survivors to get transportation to/from doctor appointment, wigs, etc. BCAFL has a charity number of AN20-0802995. Our website is breastcancerafl.org, but is not up and running. (If someone would like to donate their services to get it running, we would appreciate it). Our founders are Karen 810-516-5709 and Norma 810-240-7995 and are widows, classic car enthusiasts and multiple time cancer survivors.
These shows are being put on by the Lapeer Community Theatre.
