Took my first ride around Lake Rousseau yesterday, about 35 miles. It was a reminder of how much muscle I lost in the hospital but it's better than not riding

For those who haven't heard, I got the remaining tubes and stitches out on Monday. However I also had a vacuum pump installed on the long incision which is basically a plastic dressing over the incision and a tube running to a small vacuum pump on a shoulder strap. I'm not supposed to lift more than 10 lbs for 30 days after I get out of the hospital. That expires on the 17th so I'm going to try to ride the bike with my son following me on his Buell. Assuming no relapses or other problems I should be going back to work on the 23rd.

He is doing GREAT :) walked about 8 circuits of the nursing floor today, 2 circuits while I was there. X rays last night and today all looked good, one more round of tests to go tomorrow morning. He's talking about coming home and asking for his clothes :) of course his clothes won't fit him he's lost about 50lbs!! He's looking good!!

So far all x rays are looking good, no talk of surgery as yet.

I think the whole spa treatment last night spurred him on, new haircut, three women doing hand, foot and back massage, he's a new man!

Jon is returning to Tampa early afternoon Tues, room 6440K which I think is the floor above where he was previously. Will keep you posted on what happens next. He's doing GREAT, walking a bit more, sat in his chair for his haircut and smiling a lot more :) You'll get used to the clean shaven, short hair look, just very different :)

He's ff the trach talking up a storm and texting like crazy bd yes he now has a buzz #3 haircut, nothing else could be done with the matt of hair at the back of his head, it looks cool and feels so much better, imagine not washing your hair for 7 weeks and then tell me what you'd prefer!

OK posted a new photo up there, taken Saturday, he was a little more tired Sunday due to pain med. but he's been talking enough to make up for lost time :) Sadly they said he has to go back to Tampa for further surgery, which he's upset about, but being ever the optimist, I'm hoping it'll be minor and he'll be back in Ocala ASAP. Will keep you posted. His sons went in to visit today, which was really important.

Dear Snorthy...It's Thanksgiving in Canada this weekend. I know, it comes early up here in the Great White North. And right now we are covered in a blanket of snow which I'm having trouble being all that thankful about. But I am very thankful to hear all the positive news about you my friend. OK, Thursday update, Day 1 in his new "home" and they said he's getting some good sleep YAY!! That is what he needs more than anything right now. They suggested holding visits for a few days until he's had a chance to catch up, but the weekend or early next week should be good to go:) He is able to communicate more now, still has the trach collar around his throat, but is breathing well. Next week they'll work on getting him mobile again. He's lost a lot of weight, particularly muscle and will be very weak on his feet. Lifting the Harley is some ways down the road yet, but he's on the right path :)

Ok he's settled in his new home and was snuggled down and sleeping like a baby when I left him. Lets' hope he gets a couple of nights of really good sleep. Ok guys, he's moving to Ocala this afternoon :) Kindred Hospital, inside Monroe Hospital, 1500 SW 1st Ave #5, Ocala, Fl 34471 Remember he's chronically sleep deprived from being on ICU, so it'll take about a week to shake that off, but I have strong hopes that after that we'll start to see some great strides forward. He's already done great getting to this point, so keep those prayers and wishes flowing for him. Let me know if you have any questions

OK Monday update, he's doing good, in their words "Way too healthy to be on ICU" and that raises the issue of moving him to a rehab unit :) He's still on the trach with a little oxygen support, so still can't talk which is very frustrating all round and still not really able to easily use his laptop or texting. You'll know as soon as he is :)

OK Pimp he was ready for lap dances tonight for sure LOL totally misbehaving!! BUT I think it was the high blood sugar causing it! So restraints back on for the night, so he doesn't tug any more tubes out. Aside from that set back today, I think he's still doing "ok" He's lost a lot of weight, but also a lot of muscle, so it'll be a long time before he can hold that beast of a bike up again, even after he gets off the respirator, maybe after Thanksgiving, IF he continues to improve ...... I pray so!

Missed you this weekend Jon. left for Duluth on Friday came back Saturday. then rode to Wabasha and had lunch at Slippery Pete's. Home of Grumpy ole Men. Fall colors are almost totally in bloom the views are awesome to say the least. Will be about 3 more weeks on the north shore and then all the colors will be out. The No Name Saloon was jam packed yesterday with a lot of the riders you know . I'll bet there were 200 bikes out front all day. Froggy has gone to using Drift tires on his Boss Hoss now and still uses a can a week for NOS. Think he's enjoying the haze of the Ativan too much, was definitely in that fog of too many meds tonight, but other than that was looking ok. He says his belly is hurting, but they've run all sorts of tests and it's healing well. Probably surgery Monday to remove kidney stone, but should be "ok" on that, it shouldn't set him back, like you all say he just needs to ...b r e a t h.. Keep praying! I did mention having a ticket for a concert in Dec, he seemed to light up at that little and he loves his music playing.

When I saw they took the restraints off I said "Oh you've been behaving yourself then" he mouthed "For today" like perhaps tomorrow he won't LOL The nurse said you better behave tomorrow you've got me again !!! They're going to get tough with him. They are changing his settings on the respirator to work on weaning him off YAY!!!! Heaven help us when he starts talking, he's going to have some stuff to say!

Oh good, I didn't hear from Tom today :( .. Snorth, you give those nurses hell lol... just be careful, the male nurse might be giving the sponge bath, and I think he was wearing PINK CROCS.. just a warning :)

YAY another good visit :) He surprised me when I got there, his restraints were off, gave me a huge bear hug, just about lifted me off my feet onto the bed!!! Now he's getting frustrated being there, day 2 of being awake and he's frustrated!!! He wrote down "I was thinking about escaping" I did my logical explanation to him and hey BTW if you try checking out AMA your insurance won't cover any of this, so regardless of the medical catastrophe it would be financial suicide!! Anyway SUPER to see him awake again and starting to give the nurses the run around. They'll want to get him breathing and off that unit now, he'll have them too busy otherwise. I told him he has to concentrate on getting off the respirator first. He's asked for his laptop, so he'll be active on there very soon. Tom visited today, so that was another big plus !!

Oh well, we said one step forward, 2 steps back, today looked more like 4 steps back :( He got back from CT scan at 3pm, I went in at 4pm so he was "sedated" again and totally out of it. He managed to open his eyes once and squeeze left hand only, when the nurse bullied him and shouted at him, but that was the sum total of his response. Breathing labored and more fluid retention, so not a good day. I had hoped I'd walk in today and he'd be sat up eyes wide open taking it all in, but it was not to be. I told him everyone is still pouring out positive energy, prayers and love, and all his ladies were getting antsy about seeing him out and partying again. I told him he gets to autograph every set of breasts that arrive at his homecoming party. I told him his "Voo" friends are putting together a CD for him and that Sassy is ready to dance and even sing and that Christie needs him and Judy's cross is still there watching over him!! I just hope some of it filtered through the fog. Tomorrow's another day! Can anyone visit Saturday?????? Could make for nice ride to Tampa!!

Hey Kelly you can visit anytime except 6:30am -8am and 6:30pm - 8pm which is when shifts change and nurses discuss all patients. Having said that they've never kicked me out at 6:30pm, even though they announce it over the speakers. So glad you can visit Saturday, please keep me posted on how he is then :)

Judy and Lorie visited today and said I could do an update for you : So ...Good news, bad news : That's how it seems to go right now, so yes he has pneumonia, but that's very common when you're on a respirator, BUT.... looks like his kidneys are working a little better. If the kidneys continue to function well, he "should" be able to reduce some of that swelling in his arms and legs which will make moving less painful. They said he seemed a "little more alert", which is wonderful, so tiny steps towards getting better, but when you're this sick it seems as they correct one problem another pops up, but for now atleast, a little positive sign to give us hope. I'll go visit tomorrow and update when I get back.

For anyone visiting, there's bag on the sofa in his room, inside it there's a plastic bag with lip balm, moisturizing cream so you can give him a foot and hand massage (first guy to do this gets a prize!!), a comb and some make up remover wipes, OK I know they say "make up remover", but they're just moist wipes for his face :), tooth brush and toothpaste for when he's off the respirator. There's also a CD player and cd's in a case and there's an attachment to use a radio too, as he hates TV. Please dig in the bag and use anything to stimulate him and rouse him ( Girls, I didn't say "Arouse him" don't think he's up to that yet !!!)

OK so today's visit, some slight signs of him fighting through, but a long way to go. They're changing meds on him, to see if that can improve things, but said they need him stimulated and I know you guys can take that under your wings :) I can get back Friday, but as Christie said, we need to see who can go Weds and Thurs and Sat. Just got back from seeing Jon, a glimmer of hope that the nurse said he seemed a little better tonight than he was this morning and they just started trickling some food directly into his stomach. Not quite the M&Ms and Mountain Dew he's used to, but let's pray enough to help him on his journey towards getting better. Such a long journey ahead.
