I think we should "ALL" get together on the outside of town on the first day about 12 noon, lunch time, and do nothing but "ride through the city". Everybody !!! Just ride throught the city all at one time !! That should make a statement to the money that they'll be losing !! Amagine 100,200, 600 bikes riding through the city at one time !!Man that would be something !!!!!

The City of Myrtle Beach has just announced a 1% sales tax hike to "Promote Tourism". If they wanted tourism, they should have been behind the rally. I hope this is the beginning of the end for the mayor.

Hey Romancin The Road, I like that! "NOT A DIME IN 2009"
I'm headed to New Bern this weekend and I hear the effort is paying off. If MB doesn't want us (YOU AND I/BIKERS), we'll go spend our $$ somewhere else! And you all know, we have lots to spend!

Will be going to the Fall Rally again this year as I have for the past 5. This year, I will stay away from the City limits as much as possible.
Does anyone have the list that was circulating of the buisnesses that wanted the ban? I sure dont want to spend my hard earned money there.
Thanks.

Please help stop this insanity from spreading to the rest of the county. Let the County Council see that following MB’s example is NOT a good idea. "NOT A DIME IN 2009" is the battle cry. Its not rocket science to figure out that MB city council and the residents do not want bikers there, period. Law abiding or not. The saddest part is that I think they acted without concern for the hundreds of their own people who depend on tourists for income. There is nothing to help to replace the lost wages for those who work in MB. If the city and residents do not want to take care of their own, I don't feel obligated to try and save their businesses. It appears to me that they WANT these businesses to fail. I think its all part of someone’s plan. DO NOT let the County Council follow suit.
I've heard talk that MB is trying to pay-off Atlantic Beach, not have their Rally. As others have said, there are many problems associated with that rally so most people could understand why. However, I think they are failing to help the hundreds of their own county workers who depend on one or both May Rallies for income.
So what's my plan? Let the residents and city see their new reality for a year or so. As a local resident (outside the city limits), its "Not a Dime in 2009”. For the rest of this year, I plan to ride my bike with the legal exhaust and helmet thru the streets of Myrtle Beach as I always have. I hope they know that the new laws have not been successful in deterring me away from MB. However, when it comes to buying, I can wait a few blocks and I'm outside the city limits. Or, I shouldn’t drink and drive anyway so a glass of water will suit me just fine in the MB bars. I will give a $10 tip to help the workers. My heart goes out to those businesses that want and need the business but they didn't do enough to stop this insanity. It’s my opinion; the city doesn’t want any businesses to take biker money either. Some of the proposed laws punished and fined bars if the cops have to be called.
This is a personal decision based my opinion of the recent events. I hope others will find a similar road to follow before this spreads to the rest of the county. It would be a tragedy to if NMB and Murrells Inlet are ruined also.
I often ask myself, Who’s next? What other tourist groups will be run out of town? The golfers? They support a lot of the bars and strip clubs. That isn’t the “family” recreation. Maybe they should shut down the MB Marathon? You know, those nasty people throwing up on the streets and tying up the emergency crews for hours? LOL Thanks for reading.

NewsChannel 15 has confirmed the Carolina Harley Davidson Dealers' Association Rally held each May in Myrtle Beach will be moving to New Bern, North Carolina.
This is the release sent out this morning from The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association.
The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association is pleased to announce that our 69th Annual Spring Rally will be held in New Bern, North Carolina on May 15 & 16. The rally site is the New Bern Fairgrounds, a 40 plus acre site located at 3700 East US 70 Highway in New Bern.
Mark Cox, President of The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association said, “We feel it is in the best interest of The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association and our customers to leave the Myrtle Beach rally venue. We will continue our legacy of 69 years celebrating the oldest, continuous rally by offering our Spring Beach Rally in New Bern”. Mark went on to say, “This new venue will allow us to get back to basics and offer our existing and new customers a rally experience they will appreciate without restrictions and with the ability to enjoy the freedom of riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle”.
Yes, it is good-bye Myrtle Beach! We have given this issue serious consideration and wanted to go where we would be welcomed with open arms. T.A. Bayliss, III, the mayor of New Bern, words of welcome say it best, “We are pleased and honored that you have chosen to hold your rally in our city, and we pledge our total cooperation in making your rally a most pleasurable and memorable occasion for all in attendance”.
Historic New Bern, located at the confluence of two rivers, is the second oldest town in North Carolina. One of its many features is the picturesque downtown waterfront district and New Bern is only a 30-minute motorcycle ride to the beaches. Or, if you prefer, plan a ride to the Croatan National Forest located southeast of New Bern.
For more information, you can go to The Carolina Harley-Davidson Dealers Association web site at: www.chdda.com
NewsChannel 15 spoke just moments ago with Mike Shank, the rally promoter. He said, "It's inconsequential. All they did last year is sell t-shirts."
Shank said the dealers' association is "just one vendor out of 400." He said the reporting of it may discouraging some bikers but doesn't think it will have a big impact on attendance. He said, "The bottom line is, it doesn't mean anything.

Way to go Mayor and City Council. It's about time someone stood up to these rallys. I hope New Bern know what it is getting into. Noney is not the important thing, never has been never will be.
REAL BIKERS WILL GO WHERE THEY WANT TOO.

For many years now their were two rally events that ran together at the same time and location, and now the part controlled by the Association is going to move up the street.
Their has always been a battle for the money, between these dealers and the Association, and now the Association is trying to grab a piece of the pie and run with it. But we are free to go where ever we like and smart enough not to fall for the propaganda and media manipulation. They can not tell us where to go; together we will tell them where to go.
And you just have to love how quick all these yuppie puppy dogs, and so called bikers are to just throw in the towel, be lead like sheep by these self centered fat cat business men, that have no problem giving the Mayor Rhodes exactly what he wants. We all know that the vendors,

I understand how you feel about John Rhoades, but there are plenty of bars IN Myrtle Beach who have and will continue to support bikers! I don't think it is fair to these bars to "boycott" them. I think bikers SHOULD come to Myrtle Beach, otherwise your giving City Council EXACTLY what they wanted! Just my opinion...

Let the bastards at MB City Council drown in its own doing!!!!!

Just don't ride through with pipes that are louder than stock. They're looking for any reason to stop you and check the sound level. They will impound the bike and you will have to trailer it out of the city limits - NO EXCEPTIONS.

Ghostrider, all the areas around the 'tourist trap' still want us and are happy to have us. It's the same as always, it is the Blue-haired old ladies and the 'upper-crust' that are the ones that think they are better than us. They don't realize that we're the ones that make their little worlds operate on the level they are accustomed. So, let's see how long the their little pension and social security checks can support the entire city.
