Hum. thought that be Common Sense.. I always call when i see something that can hurt someone in the roadways.

Does that include idiots that are yakkin on their cellphones and driving 10 mph UNDER the speed limit and oblivious to all the cars/bikes having to go around them??? Geez, I wanted to bitchslap a lady today, and I was in my Explorer. How freakin scary that would be on a bike!

Hell..I drive to work in the country..and I pass this certain field where cows graze and a couple mornings I've had to call the local sheriff's office to report a cow in the road.....can you imagine hitting that huge animal?! This is a GREAT idea!!

I just got back from Ca. Was amazed to see the CHP slowing down the traffic by completly swerving from one side to the other side of the road; For the life of me I had no clue what the CHP was doing all that swerving for. The the CHP stopped multiple times clearing off debris off the interstate for about 1 mile. KUDOS to the CHP for that! Over here in Florida, have never~Ever seen FHP do that, good group site & idea... Thanks!

I always try to remove trash from the roadway. My Nissan pickup truck was hit by a piece of aluminum that came off a flatbed trailer; it did $1500 worth of damage to my fender! At the very least, it would have cut my leg off if I had been riding my scooter. The driver pulling the trailer and the insurance company both couldn't believe that much damage was caused by that little piece of aluminum. At 120mph or better, you bet it could; look at what hurricanes do. It's all a matter of physics, DUH!

In August I could not avoid but to hit road trash on the interstate here....did $1,000 of damage to my truck...totally pissed me off, so I'm joining in on this one!

The call for debris on the freeway/highway should go to Cal-Trans or whatever highway maintenance division you have in your state not 911. If you see an unsafe load on a truck or trailer that is when you call 911, they will route you to the Highway Patrol. I did this while following an uncovered sand truck in my truck, the CHP showed up in less than 5 min. citing the driver.

been doing this for years, plus reporting drunk drivers, excessive speeders, assholes on crotch rockets...what else are cell phones for??? PLEASE BE SAFE...I tell my kids it's not you I don't trust, but the others out there!!!

WHEN I SEE A HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER SLOWING TRAFFIC DOWN BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT UP AHEAD, I THINK WHY CAN'T THEY DO THAT TO REMOVE TRASH ON THE ROAD. LETS MAKE THIS WORK BY BEING MORE DILIGENT IN OUR CALLS AND DEMANDING ROAD CLEAN UP OF SUCH THINGS AS TRAILER HITCHES AND BEDS AND CHAIRS AND ANIMALS ECT...MAYBE SOMEDAY( WHEN MY GRANDCHILDREN ARE OUT PUTTING ON THE ROADS) WE MAY BE SAFER, AND HAVE LESS TRAGEDY TO OUR FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES..

Hmmm...cost of fuel vs. cost of life? There shouldn't even be any doubt!

Raveyn, I posted this sort of generically since each state and area will vary greatly how WE can be pro-active with this issue. It would be a suicide mission to stop and remove debris off the freeways in California, but somewhere rural it's a perfect solution. I thank each and everyone of you who will help me spread this idea and make things safer for all!

To Laidback's family and friends...I am sorry for your loss. I agree, let's do our best to make sure that this we don't loose anyone else we love because of something lying in the road...let's make those phone calls and maybe when enough of them are made, our counties and states will put something in place to help with this. There are more than enough of us here to get something started....so everyone, find out what your local highway patrol number is, what your county sheriff's office number is and your local police department's numbers are.... put them in your phone and USE THEM!!!

hey, I ALWAYS stop by and take it upon myself to do this...I had the unfortunate pleasure of rolling thru Osteen outide of Daytona during Biketoberfest at 3am one morning and I found myself in the middle of a road full of aluminum cans while on my bike.....thankfully I managed to manuever through them without a scratch; but as soon as I got to a safe place, I pulled over and called 911; only to have them tell me to call another # since it wasn't an EMERGENCY.....but if u r in a truck or car and can pull over, turn around do whatever it takes to save a LIFE! We have enough issues with CAGES into today's society not to have to be concerned with unnecessary debris....winks ;p

Great thought LoveBug! & I agree with Pierdancer we should be Ashamed. We are all so in a hurry or just don't want to get involved type thing. We assume someone else will go it...

Ashame we even have to remind people to do this...but excellent idea!
