Maybe you remember Woodstock.. Or folks just call you a hippie cause you have long hair.. Or you feel the freedom of being just who you are.. Regardless of where you come from or what you do for a living.. If you feel like a hippie you should be damn proud of it.. We are what others are afraid to be and we didn’t even try to be anything but who we are.. If you did drugs then you did drugs.. Maybe you just drifted along in life with no real place to be and lived like a gypsy.. Who cares.. This is just a place to be who you are and remember back in the day.. Let’s get real.. A lot of folks think bikers are just hippies.. So what.. Let’s just have some fun reminiscing of the days of the freedom we felt or still feel.. Share your thoughts.. Long live the Hippies ~
I grew up in Marin county.I know most of the people in the book "Summer of Love" personally. The original Hippies, some are still alive and some are not.Great folks. Most of the musicians from those days still live in Marin.Sam Andrews,Grace slick,Elvin Bishop,Peter Tork,Maria Muldaur,Terry Dolan, and many more.Wonderful times and a wonderful place.
grew up in the bay area...lived on hait Ashbury every saturday..ahh the days...use to go to golden gate park and listen to all the musicians....wasn't allowed to go to Berkley but my cousin was there....yes pot thc was at 4% use to laugh my ass off...those were the days....
Still a hippie, still long haired although it's gray and disappearing. Listened to KAAY from Little Rock during the very early '70s. Only decent radio in the Deep South. Picked it up pretty good in Pensacola. Waiting for retirement so that I can resume some bad habits.
The highway 09 on the way up to Rhinebeck Ny antique motorcycle show. Just east of Woodstock Ny.
So what would our illustrious government think if this was pulled off today and the highways shut down

I was only 12 the summer of 69, but one of the first albums I bought 2 years later was the Soundtrack to Woodstock. Ive gone through 2 albums, 2-3 cassettes and am presently using a well worn cd version! There is absolutely nothing wrong with true freedom and expression, it is what bikers are all about! Like the saying goes"Everybody dies, but not everybody lives"! Ride on and rock on my friends
Born in 1950 so did my Teens in the 60's and was and still am one of the enlightened ones. Have some fond memories from all those days and some smokey ones as well.
Now I do Rally Vending at Biker events and some Blues festivals..this year I was at Clarksdale,MS for the Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Fest...what a trip.
I'm down in TX this month and next doing events everywhere. Next week in Fredericksburg then down to Del Rio then up to Snyder and on and on....
Need a sweet hearted Gypsy girl to join the fun...any takers?
Does anyone remember the poster with the business man in the suit and tie, standing at the bus stop, briefcase and news paper in hand, with the hippie urinating on his leg? Mid to late 60's I believe. Take in the Haight? Man, I would love to find a copy of that.
63-65 lived there with my Mom and brother. Took years to realize it wasn't the wine making them giggle!
One of my nicknames has been Hippie! I love it and I loved the 60's and early 70's.I rememeber while traveling as a kid with my brothers and sisters all 7 of us in the back of our parents station wagon and I would always give the peace sign to all the hippies and flower children riding in or no the busses, vans and bikes. My bedroom full of peace and flower power posters. to this day I still wear jeans, tunic and sandles
Damn, was it that long ago? St.Louis's first and only REAL

You and everyone else that served during Viet Nam, are a huge part of History, it was the whole reason for everything that happened back then....lives changed, music written, it made us stand up for human rights.....it caused so many things to happen that might not have other wise....

okay, maybe this was talked about and I missed it, but remember HAIR? The broadway show and the movie...So many hit songs came out of that show...AGE OF AQUARIUS...by 5th Dimension for one.
There was a time when I had hair...lonnnnnnnnnnnng hair. Let's not forget, "Four Dead in Ohio"...Peace, Love, Dove...and hey, hey, L.B.J. how many kids have you killed today?
So I wasn't the only one they sent to a shrink for smoking weed, eh? He told my parents that they had lost me forever . . . what an ass. Anyway, I got shipped back East to get me away from my friends. The problem with that? I just made new ones! lol! Oh, I'm afraid I was the child from hell ...
They say if you can remember it --you weren't there--lol I didn't make it--think I was like 14(?) But I do remember that in my 'big' graduating class from HIGH school (all 32 of us) only 4 of us were hippies/freaks/whatever! Another good site to go to and listen/download alotta old/classic concerts is "Wolfgangsvault.com" and it's FREE!!! First time my parents caught me smokin weed--they took me to a shrink--didn't help--still crazy after all these years!!!
TO EVERYONE, SpuDz the girl that created this forum can no longer download this page on her computer due to all the content. She had no idea she would get this sort of response, but sends her love and urges everyone to keep on thinking free.
Zardoz ... 'RUBBER SOUL' had clues - 'REVOLVER' had clues - 'YELLOW SUBMARINE' (the album) had clues - 'THE WHITE ALBUM' had clues - 'MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR' had clues - 'SFT PEPPERS' had clues - and - 'ABBEY ROAD' had clues. ..... AND ..... within EACH of those albums, there were numerous songs that contained 'clues and hints' to his supposed death as well (maybe 20 or 30 songs totaled up between the LP's) ... one of the BEST examples was Revolution #9. The lyrics 'NUMBER 9 / Number 9' when played backwards said 'Turn me on dead man'! - In later years, all '4' would applaud the BRILLIANT marketing scheme to get folks to buy the albums! ... and, IT WORKED! ...
Yes I am called a hippie on a regular basis I love hippi days in Topanga Canyon and I live in my own Bohemia 4 sure.I am a free spirit I love this page you have here its cool and wow did you have my number when you showed me this.
Magic, I wondered when somebody was gonna bring up the deas paul thing!!! Lennon said instead of I buried paul, he said I'm very bored. And the barefeet and white carnation on the abbey road cover. I even heard the reference on Sgt Pepper was that Billy Sheers was a stand in for Paul, a dead ringer!! lol
wow, this site brought me back 30 years..I was in my 20s, raising babies in hip huggers and halter tops. Smoking pot and listening to "all we are saying, is give PEACE a chance" those were the days!!! ..the YouTube posts are the best! thanks for the memories!
I'm the youngest of 4 brothers. My oldest brother went to Woodstock. I recall being at home,,, and with Lincoln Log sticks,,, smashing empty shoe boxes with fury!! Keeping rhythm to top rock songs of the day!
Life is short
Here's a memory jogger. Who remembers all the HINTS on the Beatles LP covers and the LYRICS within the Beatles actual songs ---> that Paul was supposedly dead? ... As an example - at the end of Strawberry Feilds we all heard (and hear again) "I buried Paul" .......
JoJo - cool post! ... ShaSha - Thanks for the video post! ... WOW! Haven't seen the AYNIL video in YEARS! I vividly remember the night they aired that on TV. 1/2 the world watched! (nice memory!) ...
Yeah JoJo, we had a park right across from my high school. I had Algebra after lunch. I totally HATED Algebra. I'd go across the street at lunchtime and have a little smoke with my friends. Made Algebra MUCH more tolerable! lol!
Y'all just blew my mind...late 60s-early70s-My bad azz childhood friend Donna & I ruled the back of the school bus!(Bad azz biker chick, haha, at 7!)We gave that poor bus driver hell (including singing "Billy Don't be a Hero...)...for years! (When we were early teens, if we knew Donna's Dad wasn't gonna be in town...we would take the tag off his Harley and put it on her dirt bike-her bike was bigger than mine...Yep I was on back!)...uh..where was I? oh yeah...One day on the bus, there was this geeky dude who spilled some of his science project powder stuff and it had a sweet smell! The bus driver very abruptly pulled over to the side of the road, came to the back of the bus...and said 'Alright which one of you hoods is smokin them 'cherry cigarettes'? (NOW-How did he know there were cherry papers, huh, tell me that?) I ain't movin' this bus until you tell me!' We laughed 'cause we had smoked (everything)back there before and he didn't smell it, now it wasn't even us, and he is blaming us! Story of my life... blame it on the Hippie Biker Chick & her friends...LOL! Man, the stuff that went on at the bus stop before school...and then at school (OMG! We had a smoking area at our High School!)...partied after school...at the football games (in the woods behind the bleachers)...movies (sneak out)...OMG! The skating rink-only seldom going in ;) nickel bags-ludes- 'And...I'm spendin' the night at Donna's house MOM!' Groovy!

OMGosh Sally you reminded me of my 12th grade english teacher questioning me about a poem I wrote for a class project...I only rmember the begining...My mind runs free on this acid spree of colorful creatures in a nonexistant sea...She took me aside and asked me if I had ever dropped acid and I told her no...she wrote a big fat red "A" on my paper.
ok, I grew up in Florida where they were plentiful, but did any of you get to experience shrooms? I am talking mushrooms picked in a cow pasture.. those were the days!
My 10th grade English teacher took me aside and recommended that I not write any more papers defending the use of marijuana. Especially NOT to admit that I smoked it! Found out later that he was droppin acid with some of the other kids . . . lmao!
if i could id take my 21 year old daughter back in time with me ..... they think they have fun man i couldve showed her what real fun was and who her mom really was and why but sigh we cant go back but still she refers to me as an old hippie what can i say but peace lol

Jack, Exactly my man! We all handle and tolerate progress in our own individual ways, be it political or spiritual. That's what this forum is about. A place for those of us that were there to escape back to a simpler time, albeit temporarily. To reflect and share old memories, to get away from todays stress and problems. Which is exactly the same things we were protesting back then! Seems ironic to refer to the Viet-nam/Johnson/Nixon era as simpler times.
I'm not here to bring you down... Just want you to see what's goin' down. Love was gone by '68. Bought up by the man, locked up in a crate. Stored in a warehouse in East L.A. Will we ever see it again someday. They take our freedoms one by one, what we don't give they take with a gun. Call it a patriot act or homeland security. They're slowly takin' away our liberty. Puttin our kids in uniforms and off to school. Stuff we fought for when we were cool....Oh well that's enough from this ol' fool...
Love the profile picture Sally too cool! Peace! (You should post it up there in add image, too...please...) I forgot all about Boone's Farms....and yes, I do remember Zig Zag too, FLH...My Brother was also older, (teach by example, haha)and I tagged along...was waaay older in spirit, before my time...In fact he turned me on to Leon (and others)! He would get mad at me for listning to his vinyl...funny many years later he gave them all to me. I still have them, been collecting all my life, have too many. I know Magic's got me beat tho. I had a cool art teacher in jr high, we had a project to create album covers...You know I had a blast doing that! I am still a creative FLOWER CHILD! Y'all have a groovy day!
Hey Country, Desperate times called for desperate measures!lol Besides, it was the wrapper for christsakes! The paper was identical, just didn't have the glue so you had to swirl it a couple of times.
Oh yes Zar ... added cloth to many pairs of jeans to make bell bottoms! LOL ... Boones farm, blonde hash ... ahhh, the memories! Although i NEVER wrapped in a tampon paper! Yuck! LMAO
Boones Farm Strawberry hill. OMG Me and a buddy drank 13 bottles of that crap one night and sunk my 69 GTO in the Cumberland river. That's what I get for thinking I could drive.
Let's see....orange barrel...strawberry microdot.....purple microdot....tar opiumn..... blonde hashhish.....e-z wider and whatever you rolled in them.... BOONES FARM. Hell Yeah! I wanna go back. NO! I want all that NOW!
Hey Shar, I read in your profile about people discriminating against the "lifestyle", I remember into the late 70's restaurants that wouldn't serve us. One time a guy in a gas station literally turned his sign around to closed while a guy in a caddy was filling up! ooooooooo life threatining bikers, lmfao! And by the way, nice 62 pan. My first bike was a 62 pan dresser in a box!
FLH rider mentioned Zig-Zags, lol. They were so much better than tops. And if you ran out, before they went to that candy wrapper type stuff, you could roll a pretty decent "j" with a tampon wrapper!
Ah yes, Leon Russell . . . saw him live in Concord, CA. He got in the faces of the security people for making everyone stay in their seats! Thanks for reminding me, Zardoz!
A big HELL YEAH there Honey-Pie... and Zardoz - you just talked me into wearin plaid school like skirts this summer.. I won't roll em up tho like back in school.. I'll just wear em short the way they were meant to be worn.. lmao
Oh yea, Zardoz the cutting of the jeans... What a trip that was. I remember the Paisley... But my fav's were my Sonny & Cher Original Bellbottoms... They were somethin!
Oh yes you get a HELL YEAH from me too Honey-pie! Also, remembering bell bottoms ... etc. Do you remember making skirts out of your old jeans? I made one last year. My daughter and her friends all asked me to show them how I did it. I told them, we were much more creative and resourceful back then. It may have been the $15 lids! Or how about two j-bars for a buck!
LOVED the 60's and the Hippie Days...I was the one my older Brother and his Friends thought was funny to get high...I was born in 1960 and was gettin high when I was 7...Read alot of things here that's brought back some GOOD memories...Anybody seen my Zig Zag's???
$15 "LIDS", BELL BOTTOMS JEANS W/PLENTY OF PATCHES, MUSIC TO MOVE THE SOUL, LONG HAIR, HIPPIE BEADS, OMG - ON & ON -- I STILL PRETTY MUCH LIVE THE "HIPPIE" LIFE - KINDA LIKE "OLD BIKERS" - THEY KINDA DRIFT AWAY ! BUT NONE OTHER WILL EVER KNOW THE TRUE FREEDOM & PARTIES WE HAD BACK THEN - NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN - DO I GET A "HELL 'YEAH ?" PEACE, LOVE, RESPECT, DANA
Remember in these hard times what Freewheelin' Franklin' once said - "Dope will get you through time of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope!"
Those were the days......Archie Bunker....LMAO!!!
The hip hugger pants that you had so many patches on, that they were no longer just plan jeans. The tie-die shirts and tees (that I still wear) were the colors of the real life, the simple life. The care free way of living a great life.
Hey Spudz, I bet we could share a lot of stories about Catholic school. Everytime I see a girls uniform, I still fall to pieces!!! Flashbacks, Guilt, Joy, Fumbling, Detention!!! LMAO
very kewl Magic.. ya know.. perhaps this stimulis plan they talk about comes from within ourselves.. forget about all the b/s and just live as free spirits.. i am very anti-government.. i could live like a gypsy and be happy..
... ... and to think SpuDz ... this thread started with a single *THOUGHT* ... a single *WORD* ... a single *EVENT* -----> "WOODSTOCK" - Check out this video everybody!
It's all in good fun.. and a good time for folks.. just wish my HD / hard drive could handle all this.. lol... guess i need to upgrade a bit.. i'm still back in the old school puter phase here..

Oh man I remember what you are talkin bout Magic.. the girls would wrap yarn around the ring.. but I never did the ring thing.. didn't stay with one guy long enough to do that.. lol.. but I do remember the submarine races at the airport.. but then I went to an all girl catholic high school so we were the good girls :)
... Here's a thought - and a question. How many of you ladies wore your boyfriends CLASS RING? (TAPED UP TO FIT YOUR RING FINGER of course) ----- or - (possibly) his 'Varsity Letter Jacket'? ... (<:)
... One of my personal *ANTHEMS* --- 1965 --- 'Turn, Turn, Turn' ... I'll 'NEVER FORGET' the 'absolute' very 1st time I ever heard this song ... I was sitting in the back seat of 'Swampy Johnson's' car - with Molly Newman ... (oh my-my!) LMAO!
We didn't start anything.. we just brought back a little blast from the past.. I think there should be a Woodstock every year - somewhere.. wouldn't that be kewl.. not just another rally but one that only plays the old music.. hell our music has made the oldie station on the radio.. did I mention I learned how to play the guitar in the 60's.. yeah all that folklore music.. haven't played in years tho.. I need to do that again.
OMG Shar and Spudz...I don't know what you started...but I know I smile alot and literally 'laugh out loud' everytime I come here!

TRUE STORY ... SMALL TOWN AMERICA ... 1966. ----- Barker NY was a town so small, you couldn't even buy a 45 record anywhere in town! ... Everybody had to go 3 towns away (Middleport NY) to a local drug store that stocked the TOP 20 (or WHATEVER! - I forget exactly - but it was a LEAN selection!) ----- ANYWAYS, I'm with my father in Middleport and had the $0.79 cents (or whatever) it took to buy a 45. I 'BUG HIM' enough so that he allows me to run in and buy a record. He waits in the car. ... I go in - buy the record - and come back to the car. ... He wants to see what I bought, so I show him. "19th NERVOUS BREAKDOWN" by the 'Rolling Stones' ... He flips out! ... They'll be none of that BULLSHIT being played in 'MY' house!! ... He takes my record from me - gets outta the car - and tells me - DON'T YOU MOVE - YOU WAIT RIGHT HERE! - and goes back into the drugstore. ... He comes out a few minutes later - jumps in the drivers seat, and tosses me the bag with the record in it and says "HERE - YOU CAN LISTEN TO THIS!! ... So, I pull out the record and see "BALLAD OF THE GREEN BERET" by 'Barry Sadler' ..... (that was a ROUGH year between me and my father - but we've made up since then!) ... (<:)
... It's interesting how TIME - 42 years - can put a different perspective on 'things' ... Today, I honor and respect this song and all that it stands for.
i was an Army brat grew up in Europe so the scene was a lil different I wore the army jacket had long long hair bellbottoms with a peace sign on the ass and loved the music -was a very different time and mindset ....

"Wow man...this is groovy..." Y'all keep typing and I 'll just sit back in my bean bag, with the black light illuminating the posters of peace signs and flowers, watching my lava lamp, listening to Three Dog Night... and what was I doin' before I sat in the bean bag? Oh yeah, reading what y'all type...Right on! later dudes....
Oh my.. so many memories are coming back to all.. far out.. I can remember my mom gettin me a pair of straight leg jeans back in the 60's.. I told her I wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of straight legs... oh man.. and I can remember listening to music with my older brother and sisters.. my brother liked Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida... all I can say is "Back in the day"
Born and raised in small town America. (Green Acres - HOOTERVILLE type) The 1000 or so population always stayed the same. (Some girl would get pregnant - some guy would leave town) --- ANYWAYS, every summer during the 60's, Dad would ship Mom and us 4 kids off to New York City for 1/2 the summer. ..... It was relatively safe back then. It was no-big-deal to ride the subway trains all day with only a couple of forbidden zones. Wasn't allowed to go into Harlem because of the previous years riots - but other than THAT - I had free reign to go where I cared to go in the city. --- Imagine being a teenager from *PO-DUNK USA* and spending the summer in NYC and being allowed to go to 'The Village' ..... So, naturally I did! - As a 'junior' I remember being the ABSOLUTE 1st kid in Barker NY going to school in BELL-BOTTOM PANTS ----- PAISLEY SHIRT ----- LEATHER MOCCASINS ----- and one of the scarf type things hung around my neck. My Mom got a call from the principal!! ------ and to the chagrin of the local 'establishment' I wore one of those outfits in my 'junior class yearbook picture' ... LMAO!!

Hippies a subgroup of the 1960s counterculture lifestyle.
Hippies were part of a youth movement, composed mostly of white teenagers and young adults between the ages of 15 and 25 years-old. "Peace, Love, and personal freedom.
Hippie opposition to the Establishment spread around the world through a fusion of early rock, folk, blues and psychedelic rock, with the dramatic arts and the visual arts in tow. NOT THAT WAS A TIME I'm glad I got to experienced!!!!!!

You can take the hippie chick outta California, but you can never take the hippie outta the chick. Best you can do is turn her into hippie-biker chick! lol!
