Introduction:
Retired Army officer working for defense contractor in Huntsville, AL. Like bikes, guns, women, and old whiskey. Read omniverously, work continuously, ride as much as possible, and thinking about ways to expand my personal event horizon. Midwest-raised but converted in a semi-religious mystical event the first winter in Georgia that I didn't have to shovel thirteen feet of snow. Snow is a four-letter profane word -- remember this truth at all times. Consider myself a Texan, but do love Alabama and the Deep South also. Can be sardonic. Irascibility has morphed through grouchy and have at last attained the status of curmudgeon. Don't let many get close, but hold on to them tenaciously. A serial monogamist -- I'd rather try to juggle running chain saws than women. |

Activities:
Reading (3-5 books per week); Riding; Shooting; Sampling the waters with convivial friends. Sitting around and not giving a damn. Working -- got the habit young and even the patch and gum haven't cured it. Some of us are just born for toil. Anyway it's usually inside and in the shade: my two goals as a youth in minimum wage jobs.
|
Interests:
Cars; bikes, guns; women; adult beverages (for taste as much as effect). Coffee and cognac (I prefer wide-awake mild inebriation) at an outside table following a great ride. I don't drink and drive or ride

Favorite Music:
Time warped to some extent -- we had the best music and the kids today have to re-run ours. Eagles, Sinatra, Norah Jones, George Strait, Emmy Lou Harris (been in love with her since 1974); Dwight Yoakum; Roy Orbison, Mavericks. Cole Porter (sung by just about anyone). Country -- classic and some of the modern stuff -- it's where rock and roll went when it died. Even some of the more predictable classics: Bolero; Ride of the Valkyries; a little Bach and Beethoven

Favorite TV Shows:
Some of the CSI sometime; Discovery (love those guys that get paid to blow stuff up); History channel. Boston Legal tickles me although I sometimes detest the liberal rants -- Denny Crane is what I'm gonna be if I finally grow up! Really love the radio channels on the direct TV -- great sounds, and no irritating pictures and commercials.

Favorite Movies:
Time Warped again -- anything worth knowing about the world and life can be found in Mel Brooks (It's good to be King) and Monty Python (Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberry) with John Wayne for a real-world moral compass (We're burning daylight)

Favorite Books:
See above about interests. Read nearly everything. Robert B. Parker; Dick Francis; Nora Roberts (shhh!)John Sandford; motorcycle, car, and gun magazines. Military History (inescapable by-product of my first professional life). Try to read at least 4 books per year that have "redeeming social value", and then can enjoy my low literary tastes without guilt for the rest of the year.

Favorite Quotes:
We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would do us harm. -George Orwell I'm your huckleberry Maximum range of an excuse is zero meters and the bursting radius of an apology is 2 Angstrom units. - 1SG Ronald Hawk (corollary clause by myself) Life is hard, it's tougher when you're stupid. Artificial intelligence is no match for organic stupidity. There is no safety for honest men except by believing all possible evil of evil men. - Edmund Burke Age and guile will overcome youth and vigor at every contest. Machiavelli. About Me:
Born, raised, and now reverted to the semi-rural wise-ass mode. I've been told I'm a mile long, mile wide, and an inch deep. Prefer to think I'm candid from the outset, and thus, there ain't a lot more there to plumb, darlin'. Dutiful is in the DNA and leadership is inbred and reinforced through a life of being the guy who says -- "I'll handle it."
