RE: Missions Completed for 2008
by kingshadow506

I will share a little something with all of you, since I am being put on the spot. I may have posted this before, but if all of you really know how I feel about this, you will really understand.

On November 2nd I stood in a hanger in Ft. Campbell Kentucky awaiting for the huge doors to open, and finally being able to grasp reality that my pride and joy was finally home on American soil. All of us arrived early, and so did the plane. Shortly after 4 am these huge doors slung open, and in came the greatest sight I had ever seen, over 200 men and women who had been away fighting for our freedom for 15 months. Somewhere in this mix of great Americans was my son, now try and pick your son out of a group this big when they all looked the same, but I did almost immediately. Was I proud I was standing there wearing my PGR Vest and representing all of the Patriots in this great State, of course, but what I was most proud of was my son, and the man he became. I finally realized what a good job I did as a dad, and all of my nightly worries and sleepless habits were for a very valid reason. It was one of the grandest Welcome Homes I had ever attended. Yes the PGR vest got a little soggy.

When I arrived back in Montgomery, I flew in on cloud 9, I received an email from Merlin stating that the boy would be receiving a Welcome Home, all I had to do was pick a date. The American Legion had offered their lodge to host this event in Millbrook Alabama. Well we came up with a plan on how to trick the boy. Well between Merlin and myself and a few white lies, we were able to pull it off. We met the boy in Wetumpka along with his Mom and sister and 4 PGR members at a gas station close to his house. Okay Gary knew something was up, and was okay with this small gathering. Well we started the escort, the ole flags a flying, proud Daddy up front, right beside Uncle James with Monkeybucket pulling up the rear. I took him close to the FOP lodge which he thought is where the party was, but low and behold we passed it by, trick #2.

What Gary didnt know is that when we got to the toll bridge, The Legion Riders, Marco, Asha and a host of PGR would be ammassed on the other side. Now remember I arranged this escort, the same way I had arranged many missions. The Toll Bridge had granted free passage to the PGR and to the Heroes convoy, let me tell you when all those bikes led by a lone Police car pulled out, I totally lost it. I was not the State Captain of the PGR, I was a very proud father. The procession was on a lonely dark road, with only blue lights and head lights, and my friends that was the most awesome sight I had ever seen, and yes I have seen it many times, but this time my eyes were on the side of a greatful family. I forgot who I was, all I knew is I was as proud as I had ever been.

The Millbrook PD told us we would have one car with us, and we would have to stop at lights, well a marked Unit was at every light blocking traffic, cars were pulling over, and each Officer stood at attention as the Hero road through, okay flashing lights look different when you mask is filled with tears, but my God it was so beautiful.

When we pulled up at the Legion I saw the most awesome group of Patriots holding flags, some were dipped some were in left hands, you name it I saw it, but you know even if it wasnt politically correct, it took my breath away. It was the most awesome flag line I had ever seen. The rules we set on our flag line didnt matter one bit. I did recognize one member in that flag line Ann Adkins, Gold Star Mother of another one of my Heroes Matthew Bolar, she had tears running down her face standing their holding the flag. Those tears were not of sorrow for the loss of her son, they were for the joy of my son returning home safely. What a trooper, I bet me and her hugged and cried a thousand times that night.
My son got a true Welcome Home, and was from the PGR and American Legion. He was so humbled by this experience, and then he dropped the bomb on me, and simply said Dad I am so proud of you. My friends what a compliment coming from someone who has spent 27 months in the sand box.

I am not writing this to you to brag on my son, or bring attention to myself. I am sharing this with you because I have seen what all you do, through the eyes of a family member. All of you will never know how much you mean to each and every Hero and family you stand for. Your mere appearance, and your kind Thank You's is what keeps these troops and their families sane through very trying times. Just to think someone would sacrifice a Saturday night in the cold to show up and say Welcome Home Soldier, you are appreciated.

Well from this very proud Blue Star Dad I hope each and everyone of you know that you are truly appreciated, and your commitment mends broken hearts, and keeps the faith of families going.

All of you are very special, and I am very special to have all of you as a friend.

Everyday you'll discover new truths about yourself because you're a work in progress & that truth "will free you" 2 achieve your dreams..Turn wounds into wisdom..Build on your past.
Stop beating yourself up about the 10 things u did wrong, & feel good about the 1 or more things u did right..
Kindness in the face of Rudeness is not only polite, but smart..

"I" now accept the fact that "every" lesson learned from every past experience benefits me evermore..

every single being n your life is there 2 help u learn lessons of love.

When you look at everything that comes 2 u n life as a blessing (even the bad), and Not as a problem/etc., and accept "it", n look 4 the message/meaning/lesson 2 learn by this, u will c how much easier life becomes..4 if u stand-still n just listen 2 what "life" is tryin' 2 show/tell you, well u'd b a much better n happier person.

I was born at night.. but NOT last night.
So, don't worry about people from your past,
there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.
