Hi, I'm a single father of 7 kids. Yes, I get asked all the time, so I will say up front, they were all with the same woman. There are 2 sets of twins in the group. a girl/girl set, and a girl/boy set. I was married for about 10 years, divorced in 1991 I think. The kids have all grown and gone now. (the following is an update for 2009) Last year I bought my first bike in over 25 years. Went over 6000 miles with it. Nice start! I like to do group rides, not poker or fun runs. Events that raise money for good causes! I figure I waste plenty of it myself, so why not? The Wausau Firefighters MDA ride is one of my favorites! Another is the "King" ride. It's a town here in Wi. with a veteran's home. It's a blast to see how happy they are when a group of bikers ride in! I've become quite proud of belonging to the Patriot Guard Riders as well, even tho I can't go on all the mission's I'd like to.
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, 'SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.' THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, 'CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.' ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. 'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.' This poem was written by a Marine. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable..... PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed

TRUE HEART OF A BIKER A BIKER'S HEART TELLS HIM HE IS A BIKER. A BIKER DOES NOT NEED LEATHERS TO PROVE HIS POINT. IN FACT, A TRUE BIKER NEEDS NOT PROVE ANY POINT. A BIKER DOES NOT HAVE TO FLY COLORS TO BE A BIKER. A TRUE BIKER DOES NOT HAVE TO PROVE HIS MANHOOD. IN FACT, A TRUE BIKER IS SECURE ENOUGH WITHIN HIMSELF THAT HE NEED NOT SHOW HIS MANHOOD. A BIKER IS SOMEONE WHO IS BORN WITH SOMETHING ONLY FEW CAN UNDERSTAND. A BIKER IS SOMEONE WHO STANDS FIRM FOR WHAT HE BELIEVES, AND FOR THE RIGHT CAUSE, HE WILL FIGHT TO THE END. NOW A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS IMAGE OF A BIKER, BUT SO MANY OF THEM ARE WAY OFF BASE! WHEN THEY THINK BIKER, THEY THINK ROUGH AND TOUGH ....... MEAN AND NASTY........ HEARTLESS AND COLD..... TO THOSE PEOPLE I SAY HOW WRONG YOU ARE A TRUE BIKER KNOWS WHEN HE MUST BE THAT WAY AND KNOWS HE MUST DEFEND HIMSELF WHEN NECESSARY. BUT A TRUE BIKER DOES NOT GO OUT AND PROVOKE . THE NEW BREED OF SO CALLED BIKERS ARE TRULY LOST AND CLUELESS. THEY WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE RULES AND CODES SO MANY HAVE LIVED BY FOR YEARS GONE BY. A TRUE BIKER KNOWS IT IS NOT ABOUT THE COLORS YOU FLY OR THE KIND OF BIKE YOU HAVE... IT IS ABOUT HEART & SOUL & FREEDOM & FAMILY !!!!!!!!!
UNDER THE LEATHER AND BEHIND THE SHADES
Under the leather and behind the shades stands a biker. We ride for the sense of freedom it gives us. The encouragement to take the road less traveled in the chance that we may encounter something new. We ride for the friendships we make along the way, as well as, the solitude of the open road. We don’t really care what you ride, just that you do.
Under the leather and behind the shades is a beating heart. A heart filled with compassion that on any given day will be riding for those in need. Ask one of us for help, but don’t be surprised when all of us show up.
Under the leather and behind the shades stands a proud American. We are as diverse a group of people that you could possibly assemble. We are men, women, tradesmen, doctors, lawyers, retirees, military, civilian and on and on and on. We stand silently with reverence and one voice that, in the silence, can be overwhelming.
Under the leather and behind the shades stands an invited guest to the funeral of a soldier that we most likely have never met. We hold the flag of our nation as a tribute to the greatest sacrifice anyone can make. Out of respect for the fallen, we travel to stand firm for a family, a community and a nation to lean on.
Under the leather and behind the shades stands a biker with sons, daughters, brothers and sisters of our own. Beneath the rough exterior we tremble and weep at your loss. You may not see that, for we are there to support you. That’s why we stand so silently under the leather and behind the shades.
